About the project

A practical idea, built with workers.

The PALM Community Portal is a private, mobile-first information hub designed to help PALM workers find the right farm, house and support information—quickly and confidently.

Victorian pilot

Start small. Listen carefully. Improve together.

We are beginning with one participating farm and one PALM team. Their experience will shape what the portal becomes next.

Independent pilot project.
Not an Australian Government website.

The idea
Important everyday information should be easy to find, easy to understand and available when workers need it.

Bringing useful information into one place.

PALM workers receive information from many sources—employers, supervisors, accommodation teams, community organisations and government services. Much of it is important, but it can be spread across messages, paper forms and conversations.

This project creates one clear starting point. Workers can use the phone they already carry to find approved information for their farm and house, vehicle and driving guidance, maintenance processes, wellbeing contacts and practical support.

The portal complements official PALM Scheme information and existing support. It does not replace employers, government services or emergency assistance.

Why it matters

Clear information supports stronger communities.

A simple, trusted portal can reduce confusion and help workers, farms and support organisations stay connected.

📱

Available on mobile

Designed first for the device workers use every day, with short pathways and practical content.

🔒

Private by design

Farm, team and house information is available only to authorised workers with the appropriate access.

🌏

Built for real people

Plain language, translation support and worker feedback guide how information is organised and improved.

How the pilot works

Learn before expanding.

The first stage is deliberately focused so the project can test what is genuinely useful.

Listen

Talk with workers, farm representatives and community stakeholders about everyday information needs.

Build

Create a secure mobile experience using approved content and fictional data during development.

Test

Run a closed pilot with one Victorian farm and one PALM team using authorised test accounts.

Improve

Use feedback and observed needs to refine the portal before considering wider participation.

Guiding principles

What will guide every decision.

The technology is only useful if workers trust it and the information remains accurate, relevant and respectful.

Worker centred

Design decisions begin with the daily experience of PALM workers.

Privacy and safety

Access is controlled and personal information is kept to the minimum needed.

Approved information

Farm-specific content is reviewed before it is made available to workers.

Practical improvement

Feedback is used to make the portal clearer and more useful over time.

After login

Information organised around everyday life.

Authorised pilot workers will see information relevant to their own farm, accommodation and support pathways.
